Dr. Shaffer joins Dr. Michael Stuart of the Mayo Clinic in chairing AOSSM/NHL international meeting in Toronto on August 24-26, 2012. This educational program, developed and produced by the AOSSM (American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine), features internationally recognized lecturers who will congregate to provide a broad spectrum of current knowledge on hockey-related medicine issues. This will include the spectrum of injuries afflicting all ages and genders, as well as all levels of competition. This leading program has received support from both the NHL and the NHLPA (Players' Association).

In June Dr. Shaffer will address the trainers and equipment professionals of the NHL on how to evaluate and current strategies in the management of articular cartilage injuries of the knee.

At the upcoming meeting Dr Shaffer will lecture on SLAP lesions of the shoulder, a common entity encountered amongst throwing and overhead athletes.  In addition he will serve as a moderator for a panel symposium on shoulder problems.
